Experimental Photography Essay

Experimental photography Is using non-traditional techniques In photography. It includes digital editing, using a darkroom with alternatives, using your camera settings differently or making collages. Alternative process means and refers to any non-traditional or non-commercial photographic printing process. A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens but with a tiny aperture. It Is a light-proof box with a small hole on one side. Light passes through and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box, Well known as the camera obscura effect. Alan Thoburn is a well-known photographer who uses a pinhole camera. I like how creative the style is, Especially the photos in black and white. The image of a pinhole Camera may be projected onto a translucent screen for real-time viewing, But it is more often used with photographic film or photographic paper. A common use of a Pinhole camera Is to capture the motion of the sun over a long period of time. This type of Phot...

Projector Project

This is how my photos from the practical turned out. I picked out my favourite shots to show on this post, I'm going to make another for all my shots. It was a good choice. The only other editing i did was changing the shadows, midtones and highlights so they were balanced evenely. The task was to create images by using a projector and a choice of picture for the overlay. I used a Canon DSLR camera for this shoot. I was going to use a tripod, but i needed more freedom with the camera, I didn't use one in the end. Because we were in the dark, I had to switch my camera to manual mode. I then boosted the In camera ISO for extra exposure in the images. While editing the photos, I did two batches, I made one in colour and the other in black and white. I decided to go with the black and white because i thought the colours were too distracting in the original.    It was a good choice. The only other editing i did was changing the shadows, midtones and highlights so they were balanced...

Projector fun

I started this piece by taking some shots of myself with my DSLR and importing them to my laptop. I browsed through them and marked which ones were the best, I picked the one above in the end. Threw it into Photoshop, masked myself out of the original background and added a peach gradient as the background. I then scrolled through google looking for an image of space, I thought the purple and red would contrast well. I placed the space image and used the clipping mask to overlay it only on me. After this step, I applied the Overlay blending mode. Then I duplicated the space Image and moved it over the whole image. I then applied the Overlay blending mode to this layer and masked out where it was covering me, because it was too harshly overlayed. Overall, I'm happy with how it came out. I think i could have done some better colour matching and blending at the end.
